A Pentecostal for many years, Dr. George E. Gardiner said that his journey out of Pentecostalism “began with nagging questions about the gulf between Charismatic practices and Scriptural statements--a very wide gulf!” He determined to study the book of Acts. “I reread the book of Acts, slowly and carefully, praying as I did, ‘Lord, let me see what it says, and only what the Word says. Give me grace to accept it if I have been wrong and grace to apologize if I have been unduly critical. The journey through Acts was an eye opener! The actions and experiences of the early churches were far removed from the actions and experiences of the modern movement. In some ways they were completely opposite!” After he left the Pentecostal movement, he pastored churches in Massachusetts, Dayton, Ohio, and lastly Calvary Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan (founded by the late Dr. M. R. DeHaan). He passed away suddenly in 1984. Dr. George Gardiner's book, The Corinthian Catastrophe, is still available online, and is a superb treatise on the unscriptural practices and excesses of the modern charismatic movement. His audio lecture, The History of the Charismatic Movement, is the most comprehensive and enlightening you will find anywhere. His ability to explain what the Bible really teaches about Tongues, Interpretation of Tongues, plus Signs, Wonders, and Miracles is unsurpassed, and comes from the heart of someone who experienced those things first hand. It is MUST LISTENING for every serious student of the Bible. We gladly present these excellent messages on the Charismatic Movement with the permission of his late widow, Doris
